Town of Shalimar passes ordinance to add new category to list of occupational licenses

April 25, 2006, Shalimar- Attorney Vince Bruner celebrated the opening of his ninety-two room corporate hotel with a ribbon cutting ceremony and Open House.  Located at 1280 Eglin Parkway North, the Fairfield Inn & Suites Fort Walton Beach-Eglin AFB, is the first hotel to be built in the  Town of Shalimar, requiring an ordinance to add a new hotel category to the list of occupational licenses offered to new businesses who wish to operate in the town.

Shalimar’s Town Manager, Tom Burns, was honored to participate in the ceremonies, and Mr. Bruner’s appreciation was equally apparent as he introduced him.  “Tom has played an important role in the successful opening of this hotel and we will be forever grateful to him.”  As he handed him the scissors he added, “Please help us welcome our guests by cutting this ribbon.”

Mayor Gary Combs, also in attendance at the Open House, presented Mr. Bruner with a plaque for the hotel and announced, “The Town of Shalimar is pleased to present Vince Bruner, owner of the Fairfield Inn & Suites, with our very first hotel occupational license.”

This beautiful new Marriott property opened on March 8, 2006 and is located one mile from Eglin Air Force Base and four miles from the Fort Walton Beach-Okaloosa Regional Airport.  The hotel offers guests convenient access to the Okaloosa County Courthouse, local universities, and the sandy white beaches of the EmeraldCoast, with Special Introductory Rates that beckon you to experience affordable comfort.

A complimentary breakfast buffet is available each morning and features Douwe Egberts coffee.  Other hotel amenities include free high-speed internet, fax and copy service, a heated outdoor swimming pool with whirlpool spa, valet laundry service, and fitness center.  The hotel also offers a conference room to accommodate meetings of up to thirty people.

Business and government travelers alike will appreciate Marriott’s new, more luxurious bedding, which features plusher mattresses, custom comforters, crisp linens, fluffier pillows, and a new, fresh, white look.

As Shalimar welcomes the Fairfield Inn & Suites to its business district, long-time residents reminisce about the history surrounding this parcel of land.  Roger Clary, former owner of the 1940’s Shalimar Club, which hosted many well-known acts such as the Glen Miller Band and Guy Lombardo, and welcomed actors Andy Griffith and Gregory Peck, once owned a house on the same property that is now the site of this hotel.  Shalimar’s first hotel really is a home-away-from-home!

You may call the Fairfield Inn & Suites Fort Walton Beach-Eglin AFB hotel directly at 850-651-9999 for reservations, toll-free at 1-800-228-2800, or you may visit their web site at www.Marriott.com/VPSFI.

Vince Bruner is a lifelong resident of OkaloosaCounty and Fort Walton Beach.  He is the son of former School Superintendent Max Bruner and a former state senator (1988-1992).  Besides owning the Marriott Fairfield Inn & Suites, Vince also owns the Holiday Inn SunSpree, a 195 unit resort property on OkaloosaIsland.  He maintains a very active personal injury law practice, with offices in Fort Walton Beach and Panama City.  He has been a member of the Florida Bar for the last 23 years and has previously served as the city attorney in Fort Walton Beach, Valparaiso, and was an assistant state attorney under Curtis Golden.

Vince is married to Gae Bruner, of Crestview, Florida, and they have four children; Drew-18, Vincent-17, Peggy-13 and Jack-8.
